Chinese people have started introducing me to their kids as "Auntie Winona".
I have never thought of myself as being an "auntie". The word elicits images of grey permed hair, cardigans, eye glass chains on bifocals and false teeth. *shudders at the thought*
Since when did I transition from being a "jeh-jeh" (older sister) to "auntie"?
Your 2 cents
I just had a group of teens call me 'sir,' in response to a question about directions. Be happy it's just Auntie now instead of ma'am :-)

I agree, Auntie is good. It's friendly and shows respect.

my niece (almost my age!) is close to having her first child. somehow 'granduncle' seems absurd enough to be charming.

Would you spare me some change?
